Funny happy birthday image with a frog

Beneath the frog and the lily pad, the lower part of the square is open pond water, rendered as smooth bands of teal and blue-green with no ripples or reeds crossing into it. That plain stretch of water is where the type sits. It was left that way deliberately, since the top half of the picture is already busy with the balloon and the frog’s reaction — the type needed a quiet place, and the water gave it one.

The two lines on the card are “Happy Birthday” and, underneath, “Better, not older.” They are composed as real type from a line written and checked separately, after the pond scene was finished — the same rule as every card on this site, so the line about getting better reads exactly as written rather than picking up a stray letter from however the artwork was generated.

It works for the friend who would rather hear something upbeat about the year ahead than a joke about the number itself, wrapped in a picture that is doing its own small physical comedy in the background. It reads well as a same-day message and does not need anything added to make sense.

Everything in the picture is still balanced — the lily pad has not flipped, the frog has not gone into the water, the balloon has not pulled free of the ribbon. It is a card about a moment just before something happens, which is a comfortable way to talk about a birthday too: the good part is usually what is about to happen next.
